Vagina is not a dirty word

1 Comment 21 June 2012

Last Thursday, June 18, 2012, conservatives censored Michigan State Representative Lisa Brown for saying ‘vagina’ during a debate on abortion. No matter which side of the abortion argument you’re on, ‘vagina’ is not a dirty word.

On Monday, June 18, 2012, several thousand people thronged the state Capitol lawn, to protest the treatment of two female lawmakers who were barred from speaking on the House floor. Here are some of their signs.

Just to be clear, it is a nice headline to say they were censored for saying vagina but the truth of the matter is they were censored for ending her speech with something along the lines “Thanks for your interest in my vagina, but no means no” which eluded to the legislature raping women. It was the no means no and shouting comments out of order that got the two women censored from speaking on the bill. Probably still an overreaction by republicans, but this was a democratic party that is in the minority in MI, they have been able to do anything the last few years to advance their agenda so they are doing anything to blow up any slight into a huge deal to get noticed and try to turn the tide in their favor. To be accurate she should have said Uterus anyway, I think she was trying to go for shock value. I agree Vagina isn’t a dirty word though, it’s a medical term for a part of female anatomy.
