I have a great older friend; his name is Jack. Jack is now well into his 8th decade. He has lived a very interesting life; I love to listen to his stories. Jack also has some great one liner’s such as, “I’m so old now that I don’t buy green bananas anymore.” One of his best lines comes out regularly whenever someone says, “Hi Jack, it’s good to see you.”
Jack always replies with, “It’s good to be seen.”
I first met Jack about 5 or 6 years ago at a local cigar store. The kind of place men meet to sit and enjoy a cigar, tell stories, and share jokes. Everyone should have the opportunity to sit in one of these cigar shops and enjoy the company of other men, sometimes women, and enjoy a fine cigar while engaging in great conversation. Someday in the future it may no longer be possible to do it, because of all the social nannies in our society today.
Nevertheless, I was talking about my friend Jack. Jack loves martinis and one of his other witty lines is, “I never eat on an empty stomach.” Which means, he needs to have his martini before dinner. I never used to like martinis, until Jack made me one, that is. Now I love to have one, provided it’s made with Jack’s recipe. He perfected this over the last 50 years. Try it; it’s excellent!
There are 2 important elements to the secret of Jack’s Ultimate Martini:
1. Start with as good vodka. Jack recommends Russian Standard Vodka – Russia’s Number One Premium Vodka
2. The right formula: 6 parts vodka to 1 part Dry Vermouth
3 oz. Vodka
½ oz. Dry Vermouth
Combine the vodka and vermouth in a cocktail shaker with ice. Slice a lime and squeeze a bit of fresh lime into the shaker. Close the shaker and shake well. Strain into a chilled martini glass.
Sip & Enjoy!
Optional (the way Jack likes it, not me): Garnish with an olive stuffed with garlic.
Note: I like to make my martinis two at a time. So I used 6 oz of vodka and 1 oz of dry vermouth and then pour into two glasses. I drink bourbon alone, but I prefer to drink a martini with a friend. 🙂
After you’ve tried it, come back here and leave a comment on how you enjoyed it.
