Bourbon of the Day: Four Roses Single Barrel

Comments Off on Bourbon of the Day: Four Roses Single Barrel 01 June 2010

The Four Roses distillery was the first stop on my bourbon trail trip three years ago. However, it wasn’t until we got to the bar in The Old Talbott Tavern, Bardstown, KY that we got to sample the best bourbons, side-by-side, in a taste test. We all agreed Pappy Van Winkle was #1, but right behind it in the number two spot was Four Roses Single Barrel. Four or five bottles later I can tell you this is one great bourbon, and it’s reasonable priced. You can get it in Houston for approximately $40 for 750ml.

From the card hanging from the neck of the bottle attached by leather strap…

Four Roses uses two grain recipes and five proprietary yeast strains to distill ten uniquely different Bourbon flavors, then ages each one individually in new charred white oak barrels. Like all Four Roses Bourbons each flavor is very smooth and mellow with a nice soft finish.

I have carefully selected one of the ten flavors for Four Roses Single Barrel. Distinctive fruity aromas with delicate notes of honey and maple syrup – as well as spicy hints of cinnamon and nutmeg – make this bourbon both remarkable and truly unforgettable.

Each barrel is carefully hand crafted, hand bottled and has a handwritten label noting the warehouse and the rack location where the barrel was aged. We hope you enjoy every sip of their rich and robust, yet very smooth and mellow, single barrel bourbon with the long, soft and delicate finish

Be mellow,
Jim Rutledge
